Bayern looking to strengthen over the summer

Christian Nerlinger has revealed that Bayern Munich intend to secure a marquee signing this summer. The German giants' director of sport has indicated that the club will not go crazy in the transfer market, but have aspirations of securing the signature of a world-class talent. Bayern are still hoping to tie France international Franck Ribery down on fresh terms, but claim his future will have no bearing on their transfer activity. A cautious approach, during a difficult financial time, will be the order of the day, with Nerlinger admitting Bayern cannot afford to waste precious funds on frivolous acquisitions. "It is always our intention to bring big names to Munich," he told the Tz newspaper. "We always have our eyes open and we know that we have a good chance at the moment.

Quality

"We want quality not quantity, class not mass. "In Franck and Arjen (Robben), we have two extra class players and it is important to get somebody who can decide a game out of nothing." He added: "We will not be doing anything silly, though, as even a team packed with top players does not guarantee success. Look at Real Madrid. "They have been eliminated from the Champions League for the sixth year in a row. To live like them would be like a declaration of bankruptcy. "We would rather look at Barcelona, as they are a more suitable role model. Their team has grown over many years and has been selectively strengthened with new players."
