Bosnian striker seeking escape from long-term deal
Wolfsburg remain determined to keep Edin Dzeko after reports surfaced claiming the striker could try and manufacture a move away from the club.
Dzeko has been attracting the interest of a number of European teams and is said to have demanded the Wolfsburg hierarchy allow him to leave.
The 24-year-old is contracted to the Volkswagen Arena side until 2013 but the deal contained a clause which stated any £32.5million bid by 1st June would trigger his release.
No such offers were forthcoming by the beginning of the month, however, and the Bundesliga team have stated their intention to keep hold of the Bosnia international.
And general manager Dieter Hoeness insists their position remains unchanged, hitting back at the reports suggesting Dzeko was trying to force a move.
Hoeness said in the German newspaper
Allgemeine Zeitung: "Edin Dzeko is a player of VfL Wolfsburg and he has a valid contract with our club.
"I can imagine his viewpoint may differ on this, but I can just affirm that our intentions are clear.
"We want him to stay on at the club. This is what I have told his agent on the phone recently."
Friedrich talks
Meanwhile, manager Steve McClaren is looking to bolster his ranks after it was revealed the club are in talks with Hertha Berlin over signing defender Arne Friedrich.
Friedrich has two years remaining on his deal in the German capital but has been attracting interest from a number of clubs following Hertha's relegation to the second division.
The 31-year-old impressed during Germany's hammering of England on Sunday and the player admitted he had "several offers" to consider, including ones from the Premier League.
And it appears Wolfsburg are a possible destination for the stopper, who said he will decide on his future after the World Cup.
Hoeness told the
Bild newspaper: "We are in negotiations with Hertha."
