Experienced defender makes switch from Hertha

Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Germany defender Arne Friedrich from relegated Hertha Berlin. The 31-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the Volkswagen Arena and joins for a reported fee of €2million (£1.6m). Friedrich was the subject of much interest from a number of European clubs following Hertha's relegation from the Bundesliga last season. And after a number of impressive performances for Germany in this summer's World Cup, Wolfsburg acted quickly to capture their man. Managing director Dieter Hoeness said: "We are glad that Arne has decided to join us and that this issue has now been dealt with. "He is currently proving his class with the national team. Arne will not only do our team good since he is an experienced and strong-performing player, but also with his personality. "He will certainly help us to stabilise our defence." Friedrich, who can play at right-back or in central defence, spent eight years in the German capital with Hertha after moving from Arminia Bielefeld in 2002.
