Highly-rated play likely to miss rest of German season
Japan and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa is set to miss the Asian Cup final with a broken foot.
The 21-year-old broke a bone in his foot during Japan's hard-fought semi final win over South Korea, which was eventually decided on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
Kagawa broke down on Wednesday in training before a scan revealed the extent of the player's injury.
Kagawa, who was recently
linked with Manchester United, will miss Saturday's final against Australia, but there could be worse news to come for league leaders Dortmund.
Dortmund press officer Hans-Joachim Watzke told
SID: "The news is bad. He was a prominent figure for us in the first half of the season.
"The end of the season [in Germany] is three-and-a-half months away and a broken foot needs time to heal.
"It will be close [whether or not he plays again this season]."
