Midfielder won't accept offer of friendly as farewell gesture

Michael Ballack claims he has been treated with total disrespect by Germany coach Joachim Loew. The former Germany skipper has called an offer to end his international career with a friendly game against Brazil next month a 'farce'. Loew has called time on using the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea midfielder, insisting a number of talented younger players deserve their opportunity. The German football federation has offered 34-year-old Ballack a 99th and last international appearance in a friendly, which was arranged some time ago. But the Bayern Leverkusen man has hit out at the offer, saying: "The style and content of the statement (by Loew) are unfortunately exactly like the way he (has) treated me since my serious injury last summer. "To call a friendly match that was arranged long ago a farewell match is a farce in my opinion. I know I owe my fans this match but I cannot accept the offer." Ballack has not played for Germany since the national side lost 1-0 to Argentina in Munich in a friendly last March.
