Bayern winger keen to feature in more matches to improve fitness
Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben insists that he needs more game time to get back to his full potential and hopes to make an appearance in the UEFA Champions League clash with Villarreal on Tuesday.
The Dutch international made an unexpected start for Bayern on Saturday when they were defeated 1-0 by Borussia Dortmund, having been sidelined by a groin operation in October.
Anatoliy Tymoshchuk is back from suspension and is therefore available to play against the Spanish side this week, but Robben also wants to feature in an attempt to get back to his best.
"I need the rhythm, I need games to get fit and to get back to my level," Robben said.
Satisfied
"The coach asked me on Friday if I wanted to play from the start and I said, let's do it.
"I have made a few brief appearances, which I don't count, so I would say I have been out for three months. It was good to be back on the pitch."
The 27-year-old was pleased with his fitness levels but admitted that it was a tough game to play in when he had just returned from injury.
"This was not an easy game with which to start again," he added.
"This was something entirely different from training. I am satisfied that I managed to get through the 70 minutes."
