Schalke chief 'optimisic' forward will pen new deal

Schalke forward Jefferson Farfan is considering the offer of a new deal which would keep him at the Veltins-Arena until June 2015, says chairman Clemens Tonnies. The Peru international, who joined the Bundesliga club for around £8million from PSV Eindhoven in 2008, is out of contract next summer. Schalke have offered Farfan a new three-year contract and are reportedly expecting a decision from the 26-year-old by the end of October. Tonnies told BILD: "We have offered Jefferson Farfan the opportunity to remain a player at our club. "We have handed him a proposal of a new contract. That would last until June 2015. "Thus far he has not made a decision. I am, however, very very optimistic that Jefferson Farfan will stay on as a player of Schalke 04 and sign a new deal with our club." Farfan, who has established himself as a first-team regular at Schalke, was linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus during the summer transfer window.
