Schalke have agreed a deal to sign forward Chinedu Obasi on loan from Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim with a view to a permanent move.
Obasi was suspended from the Hoffenheim first-team squad recently for disciplinary reasons and his future under coach Holger Stanislawski looked bleak.
The Nigeria international also admitted last month that he could be tempted to follow his former team-mate Demba Ba to the Premier League.
However, he now has the chance to revive his career in Germany after joining the Royal Blues until the end of the season.
"He is a quick and versatile forward," said Schalke's general manager Horst Heldt on his club's
official website.
"In addition, he is eligible to play for us in Europe."
The 25-year-old, who moved to Hoffenheim in 2007, will join his new team-mates for their mid-season training camp in Qatar from 4th January.
