Schalke coach Jens Keller admitted his anger at seeing his side held 1-1 at home by Maribor, but insisted they would still make the Champions League knock-out stage.

The Germans, who drew 1-1 at Chelsea in their first Group G match, had to settle for a point against on paper the weakest team in the group.

The Slovenian side took a shock lead through Damjan Bohar in the 37th minute, with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar levelling 10 minutes into the second half.

"It's clear that we're not happy," Keller said on the club's official website. "We absolutely wanted the three points.

"We started the game well and had some good moments in and around their box. We didn't make the most of that early phase.

"Their goal came from a moment of carelessness. We didn't track back properly. The team tried everything they could after that. We had one or two decent opportunities, but couldn't do anything more than level it at 1-1."

Schalke went into the game on the back of a 2-1 derby win over Borussia Dortmund at the weekend, having won 3-0 at Werder Bremen four days before that, and Keller claimed that schedule had left his players drained.

More from Champions League Group Stage

"You can't forget that the last few weeks have been incredibly intensive and have cost us a lot of energy," he said.

"You could see that the players were on their last legs towards the end. But we will pick up the points elsewhere. I'm thoroughly convinced that we will reach the last 16."

Schalke lie in third place in the group after two games, level on two points with Maribor.
