Former Germany star ready to hang up boots
Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings has announced he plans to retire in the summer.
The former Germany international is out of contract at the end of June and he has made up his mind not to seek an extension but, instead, to hang up his boots for good.
Frings has played a total of 392 Bundesliga matches for Bremen, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and was capped 79 times by Germany, and he feels the time is right to hang up his boots.
"I will be 35," Frings told
Norddeutscher Rundfunk. "I don't want to carry on, I have had enough."
He could yet be talked into playing for another year if he feels Bremen really want him to keep playing for them, but he rates the chances of that happening as slim.
"We will hold some talks so my decision is not yet 100% certain, but there is a clear tendency towards retiring," added Frings.
"I have been thinking long and hard about this. People keep on asking me whether I will be staying or not."
