Werder Bremen coach Robin Dutt's future remains shrouded in doubt after the club's director of sport Thomas Eichin refused to issue any guarantees.
Bremen are propping up the Bundesliga after failing to win any of their first seven matches of the season.
With four draws and three defeats, the northern club are facing a third straight season of struggle and Dutt, who presided over their successful battle to beat the drop last year, is in the firing line.
"There can be no such thing as a job guarantee in the Bundesliga, be it for me, the coach or a player," said Eichin to Sport1 television.
"We're all dependent on us being successful."
Dutt has nevertheless been given the backing of midfielder Clemens Fritz.
"The way he works with us on a daily basis and how he prepares us for games - the team don't doubt him in any way," Fritz said.
