Defender could leave Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg have indicated that Jan Simunek's future could lie elsewhere following a difficult 2009/10 season. The Czech Republic defender established himself as an important member of the side in his first year at the club in 2007. However, he has gradually fallen down the pecking order and played only a minor role under Armin Veh last term. Steve McClaren has since been appointed manager and will want to assess the squad he has inherited before he starts rebuilding. However, Wolfsburg managing director Dieter Hoeness recognises that Simunek, who has one year remaining on his current deal, may not figure in the new boss' plans. "Jan Simunek has a contract left at our club, still he did not get much practice," Hoeness told kicker-Sportmagazin. "In this case we need to consider his position with our club."
