Coach commits until 2014 after impressive season

Dieter Hecking has signed a two-year contract extension as Nurnberg coach. Hecking's existing deal was due to expire in June 2012 but Nurnberg were keen to offer a new deal and he has committed himself to the Bundesliga club until June 2014. The 46-year-old took charge in December 2009 and kept the Bavarians in the German top flight that season via the play-offs. Then last season the former Hannover and Alemannia Aachen coach led Nurnberg to a sixth-place finish. "I'm delighted by the trust the FC Nurnberg management have shown in me by extending my contract ahead of schedule," he told the club's official website.

Keep building

"We want to continue on the path we've been treading and build on our successful cooperation in the future. "The goal is to make further strides in the Bundesliga and establish the club in the top flight." Club chairman Klaus Schramm added: "We confirm, with the agreement of the supervisory board, the early contract renewal of Dieter Hecking, with whose work we are extremely satisfied. "The extension of the employment relationship was the logical step." After suffering relegation from the Bundesliga in 2007/08, Nurnberg were promoted straight back into the top flight the following season.
