Bayer Leverkusen left it late to win away at Energie Cottbus and a Martin Fenin hat-trick secured victory for Frankfurt.
A last-minute goal for Dortmund against MSV Duisburg ended a game that saw six goals while a Karlsruhe win takes them above Schalke.
Bayer Leverkusen move up to third after a 3-2 win over
Energie Cottbus. The home side went ahead on 15 minutes with a Michal Papadopulos goal before Simon Rolfes equalised in the 59th minute.
Dmitri Boulykin took the lead for Leverkusen (69) before Christian Bassila levelled for the home side in the 77th minute. Simon Rolfes added his second of the game four minutes from time to secure victory for the visitors.
A hat-trick from Martin Fenin (39, 60, 90) against
Hertha Berlin extended
Eintracht Frankfurt's unbeaten run to four games.

MSV Duisburg looked like they had earned a much-needed three points against
Borussia Dortmund before a last minute goal from Diego Klimovicz (90) made the score 3-3.
Duisburg had a two-goal advantage at the break after goals from Julian Filipescu (17) and Tobias Willi (30) before Sebastian Kehl pulled one back for Dortmund in the 50th minute.
Mihai Tararache scored a penalty for the home side (58) but a brace from Diego Klimovicz (68 & 90) ensured the points were shared.
Karlsruhe climbed a place to fifth after a 2-0 win at home to
Nurnberg. Christian Eichner scored the first in the 67th minute after Nurnberg's Andreas Wolf was sent off for picking up a second yellow card. Joshua Kennedy doubled their lead after 74 minutes.
Hamburg took the advantage against
Hannover in their 1-1 draw after 40 minutes when Szabolcs Huszti scored from the penalty spot. Vadis Odjija Ofoe equalised for Hannover in the 70th minute before subsititute Sergio Pinto was sent off in the 89th minute.
Elsewhere, a goal from Libano Batista Grafite in the 27th minute was enough to hand
Wolfsburg the win away at
Arminia Bielefeld.
