Michael Frontzeck has resigned as coach of Bundesliga strugglers Hannover, the club announced on Monday.
The 51-year-old, who only took the reins five matches from the end of last season, said he felt he no longer had the confidence of his employers.
"Solidarity and confidence in our situation are necessary conditions to work successfully," he said, with his side second-from-bottom of the Bundesliga.
"Right now, I no longer feel that faith from the Hannover management."
Only Hoffenheim are keeping Hannover off the bottom of the table after Frontzeck's side picked up just 14 points from their opening 17 matches.
Germany entered its winter break following the weekend matches, in which Hannover lost 1-0 at home to champions and leaders Bayern Munich. It was their sixth home loss of the season. Hanover's players are not due to resume training until January 4, by which time a successor is expected to be named.
