Hamburg are close to selling midfielder Jonathan Pitroipa to Rennes in a deal worth a reported €3.5million (£3.2m).
The 25-year-old Burkina Faso international flew from Germany to France over the weekend and will now discuss the terms of a move to the Ligue 1 club.
Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen expects the deal to be complete by Wednesday at the latest and admits Pitroipa's exit will be a setback for the club.
Arnesen told the
Hamburger Morgenpost: "There are only a few things still to be resolved, but I hope that in the next two or three days we will have a decision. Jonathan can now meet with Rennes.
"Jonathan came to us on a free transfer three years ago, now we will get some money for him. But we will be losing a good, talented player."
Pitroipa featured in 26 of Hamburg's Bundesliga games last season, scoring twice, having joined them from Freiburg in 2008.
