Kostner continues with Wolves

Lorenz-Gunther Kostner has decided to stay with Wolfsburg even though Steve McClaren has taken his job.

Coach to return to role as reserve team manager

Lorenz-Gunther Kostner has decided to stay with Wolfsburg even though Steve McClaren has taken his position as first-team manager. Kostner had been in charge of the Wolves since Armin Veh was sacked in January, but he always knew that brief would only last until the end of the season. Former England and FC Twente boss McClaren has since been appointed, but Kostner is happy to return to the role of reserve-team manager that he occupied prior to his promotion. "I am happy to be coach of this team and am looking forward to carrying on my work with them," said Kostner, whose contract with the club has one year left to run. "There was never any doubt about me fulfilling my contract with Wolfsburg." Kostner's name had been linked with other jobs in Germany, which makes Wolfsburg's managing director Dieter Hoeness all the more delighted to keep the 58-year-old among his ranks. "After all of the speculation, we wanted clarity in this issue and we have got that," he said on the club's official website.
