Villa switch ruled out as German keeper commits to Dortmund
Goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has extended his deal with Borussia Dortmund until 2014 to pour cold water on speculation linking him with Aston Villa.
The 30-year-old German, whose previous contract at the current Bundesliga leaders was due to expire in the summer, was understood to have been in talks with Villa over a potential move to the Premier League.
However, the club have confirmed on their
official website that Weidenfeller has prolonged his deal by three seasons.
The shot-stopper, who arrived in Dortmund from Kaiserslautern in 2002, is pleased to extend his stay at the high-flying club.
He said: "I'm happy to play an important role in the sporting development of Dortmund."
Dortmund have conceded just 10 goals this season with Weidenfeller between the sticks, marking the best record in the league and giving them a 10-point advantage over nearest rivals Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen.
