Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Japanese star Shinji Kagawa has undergone foot surgery.

Dortmund midfielder yet to have a date for return

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Japanese star Shinji Kagawa has successfully undergone foot surgery. The Blue Samurai playmaker suffered a broken foot whilst with the national team in the Asian Cup in Qatar, where they successfully won the tournament by beating Australia 1-0 after extra-time. Kagawa did not feature in that final due to injury, but the 21-year-old, who has become a key figure for Dortmund in their quest for the Bundesliga title since moving from Cerezo Osaka at the start of the season, is on the road to recovery. No date has yet been given for his return, but with Dortmund seeing him as a focal point, and with rumours of a possible bid from Manchester United in the summer, he will be eager to make a quick recovery. Borussia Dortmund team doctor Markus Braun told the club's official website: "I have been given info about the surgery via Mr. Ikeda, Mr. Ikeda had been in charge of the surgery. "Receiving this news is good news for Borussia Dortmund, I am in ongoing touch with Mr. Ikeda as it is important to work out a further plan with regard to the aspects of a good recovery."
