Leverkusen defeat hands Klopp's side first Bundesliga since 2002

Borussia Dortmund clinched the Bundesliga title after beating Nurnberg at home as nearest rivals Bayer Leverkusen lost away to Cologne. St Pauli are now almost certain to finish in the bottom three, but Borussia Monchengladbach earned a massive three points in their fight to stay up. Jurgen Klopp has masterminded Dortmund's first title since 2002 after a 2-0 success over Nurnberg saw off Leverkusen's challenge with two games to spare. Lucas Barrios broke the deadlock just past the half-hour mark and Robert Lewandowski scored two minutes before half-time to ensure Dortmund had a relatively stress-free second period. Leverkusen needed to match Dortmund's result in order to take the title race into another week but slipped to a 2-0 defeat away to struggling derby rivals Cologne. Stefan Kiessling hit the bar for Leverkusen early in the second half before Cologne edged ahead through Milivoje Novakovic on 67 minutes. The visitors were again denied by the woodwork on 75 minutes as Renato Augusto hit the post before Novakovic's second of the game on 82 minutes lifted Cologne a step closer to safety. Bayern Munich returned to the UEFA Champions League places after a comprehensive 4-1 home win over Schalke. Arjen Robben gave Bayern a sixth minute lead, but Schalke, who play Manchester United in a European semi-final second leg next Wednesday, were level two minutes later through Holger Badstuber's own goal. Thomas Muller put Bayern back in front on 13 minutes and, after Mario Gomez scored on 19 minutes, Muller grabbed the fourth late on. Borussia Monchengladbach secured a big win in their fight for survival after a 1-0 triumph at Hannover which dented their opponents' hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. Luck appeared to be against Gladbach when Mike Hanke and Mohammadou Idrissou were both thwarted by the bar, but Marco Reus struck decisively 15 minutes from time. Mainz kept a firm grip on fifth spot, and left rivals Eintracht Frankfurt firmly in the mire, following a 3-0 home success. Andreas Ivanschitz scored after 26 minutes before Elkin Soto grabbed a brace before the interval as Frankfurt also had Sebastian Rode sent off. Papiss Demba Cisse scored a goal in each half as Freiburg enjoyed a 2-0 win at Hamburg, who struck the post through Heung-min Son in the second period. Stuttgart have virtually assured their Bundesliga status after coming from behind to win 2-1 at Hoffenheim. Peniel Kokou Mlapa put Hoffenheim ahead on 14 minutes before Stuttgart's Khalid Boulahrouz hit the post just two minutes later. Cacau equalised on 63 minutes and the winner arrived five minutes later when Zdravko Kuzmanovic converted a penalty after Martin Harnik had been fouled by Isaac Vorsah.
