Eredivisie: PSV Eindhoven maintain good start with easy win over PEC Zwolle

Defending champions PSV Eindhoven defeated PEC Zwolle 4-0 to secure top spot in the Eredivisie.

They have begun their title defence with three wins from three and lead ADO Den Haag on goal difference. Zwolle continue to wait for their first win.

PSV took the lead in the 22nd minute when Nicolas Isimat-Mirin scored from close range after Luuk de Jong headed the ball into his path. Jorrit Hendrix doubled their advantage in the 35th minute with a fine strike from distance.

They remained largely in control but it took until the 86th minute for PSV to secure victory when De Jong headed in from a free-kick. There was still time for Steven Bergwijn to add a fourth with a powerful finish into the top corner.

Long-term rivals Ajax fell to a surprise 2-1 home defeat against Willem II, leaving them four points behind and in eighth place.

Davy Klassen headed them in front after only 24 seconds but they disappointed from that point onwards. 

Erik Falkenburg equalised for Willem with a powerful shot into the top corner in the 28th minute and within three minutes Fran Sol took advantage of time and space in the area to score their second and seal three points.

Vitesse Arnhem sit fourth after winning 1-0 at Roda JC. Victory was secured in the 23rd minute when Lewis Baker, on loan from Chelsea, took advantage of the hosts misjudging a long ball forward.

There was also a 2-1 home win for NEC Nijmegen over Heerenveen.

Pelle van Amersfoort equalised for the visitors four minutes after Dario Dumic's opener. Reagy Ofusu secured maximum points with a 58th-minute finish.
