Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a hat-trick as Ajax moved three points clear at the top of Eredivisie with a comfortable 6-2 victory against struggling Excelsior at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

The 35-year-old took his tally for the season to 14 league goals as Ajax put pressure on second-placed PSV Eindhoven ahead of their home game against De Graafschap on Sunday.

Dusan Tadic scored twice and Kasper Dolberg was also on the score sheet for the Amsterdam side, while Mounir El Hamdaoui and Jeffry Fortes replied for Excelsior.

Feyenoord took a grip of third spot with a 2-1 home win against Heracles. Steven Berghuis scored either side of Jesper Drost's equalising goal for the visitors, despite Nicolai Jorgensen's 65th-minute red card.

AZ Alkmaar suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat to ADO Den Haag at the AFAS Stadion. Erik Falkenburg's double put the visitors in control but two late goal from Albert Gudmundsson, the latter in injury time, levelled things up.

That was not the end of the drama, however, as there was still time for Sheraldo Becker to net a winning goal.
