Eredivisie round-up: PSV trail Ajax on goal difference after ADO Den Haag win

Luuk de Jong PSV

PSV maintained their Eredivisie title push with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over ADO Den Haag at the Philips Stadion.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's late goal at Groningen sent Ajax three points clear on Saturday evening to pile the pressure on Mark van Bommel's side.

However, Denzel Dumfries' first-half effort set PSV on their way before a frantic finale brought three goals in the final seven minutes.

Luuk De Jong made it 2-0 before Tomas Necid halved the deficit with two minutes remaining, only for Donyell Malen to seal the triumph with a header in added time to move alongside the league leaders on 77 points - trailing only by goal difference.

Fortuna Sittard all-but secured safety with a 2-1 win against basement club NAC Breda.

Mark Diemers scored a first-half penalty and added a fine second goal late on for the hosts, with Mitchell Te Vrede netting a stoppage-time consolation.

Breda cannot escape the bottom three after defeat but still have a chance to finish in the two relegation play-off positions, with the 18th-placed team going down automatically.

Excelsior, who occupy one of those relegation play-off places, snatched a last-gasp point against Europa League-chasing Willem II.

Renato Tapia fired in from range in the 16th minute and looked set to claim victory for the visitors until Mounir El Hamdaoui grabbed an equaliser in the third minute of time added on.
