Midfielder offered loan opportunity with relegation candidates
Eredivisie strugglers NEC Nijmegen have captured versatile Ajax midfielder Jeffrey Sarpong on loan until the end of the season.
New NEC manager Wiljan Vloet had wanted to sign PSV Eindhoven youngster Stef Nijland before he moved to Willem II, so instead turned his attention to Sarpong.
The 21-year-old, who offers an attacking threat from midfield, has struggled to gain regular first-team football at Ajax due to a number of injuries since making his debut in 2005/06.
Martin Jol was therefore willing to allow Holland Under-21 international Sarpong to leave in order to build experience in NEC's battle against relegation.
A statement on NEC's
official website read: "During the remainder of the current season Jeffrey Sarpong will be on loan to NEC.
"The deal will be complete on 4th January."
