PSV have terminated Jonathan Reis' contract after claiming he tested positive for a banned substance.

Dutch club claim player tested positive for banned substance

PSV Eindhoven have terminated the contract of Jonathan Reis after claiming the striker tested positive for a banned substance and refused to seek professional help. The Eredivisie leaders announced the news by stating that the Brazilian returned late to training following a holiday in Brazil and he was then sent for a physical evaluation due to his poor fitness levels. PSV claim that a hospital examination discovered a banned substance and, when Reis refused professional help, the club say that they had no option but to release the player. General manager Jan Reker told PSV's official website: "This is a tough but inevitable decision.

Nightmare

"We have discussed the situation of Jonathan Reis at great length and we came to the conclusion that PSV has no other choice. "The club and head coach Fred Rutten in particular have done their very best to help Reis, but all to no avail." Renato Moura, the player's agent, said in a statement: "I must admit I am very disappointed and sad that such a gifted player of one of the best clubs in the world, should be throwing his career away. "It is incredible that Jonathan, who has received so much help from the club, should give up his football career so light-heartedly. This is a nightmare for everyone. "PSV and I have done our utmost to help him, so it's extremely sad to see that he has refused our help."
