Head coach retires on medical advice
Poor health has forced head coach Arno Pijpers to leave relegation-threatened Eredivisie side Willem II.
Pijpers, a former manager of Kazakhstan who was 50 this week, has opted to retire with immediate effect on medical advice.
His departure comes as the club are poised to take part in the relegation play-offs at the end of the season.
A statement on the club's
official website read: "To the great disappointment of Willem II and Arno Pijpers, his work with the club comes to an end today.
Terminate
"In the interest of William II and his health, Arno Pijpers has decided to terminate his work immediately.
"Arno Pijpers does not feel healthy. For this reason, he does not have the necessary energy and spirit to accompany the players and prepare for the next challenge which is so very important for the club."
Pijpers' departure comes after the club sacked coach Alfons Groenendijk in February following a disastrous run of form.
