Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven made it six wins in a row as they beat Cambuur 2-1 on Saturday evening.
The result puts the pressure on second-placed Ajax and third-placed Feyenoord ahead of their meeting on Sky Sports 5 on Sunday.
Georginio Wijnaldum converted Jetro Williems’ cross to put PSV ahead in the 39th minute and fellow Netherlands international Memphis Depay doubled the advantage in the second half.
Daniel de Ridder replied for Cambuur in injury-time but it was only a consolation effort.
At the other end of the table, basement side FC Dordrecht won for the first time since the opening day of the season as they beat Excelsior 1-0.
Mart Lieder netted the only goal of the game in the 64th minute.
Sam Larsson grabbed three assists as Heerenveen ran out 4-1 winners against Vitesse.
The hosts got off to a perfect start as Luciano Slagveer and Mark Uth both found the back of the net inside the opening 10 minutes.
Daley Sinkgraven made it 3-0 before half-time and Slagveer grabbed his second shortly after the break to put the result beyond doubt.
Vitesse managed to get on the scoreboard through Guram Kashia in the 76th minute but could not alter the outcome.
PEC Zwolle and AZ Alkmaar drew 1-1 after Nemanja Gudelj's early goal for Alkmaar was cancelled out by Jody Lukoki in the 14th minute.
