Alkmaar boss feels teenager will have no problems adapting
AZ Alkmaar coach Gertjan Verbeek says he was pleasantly surprised to see teenage midfielder Adam Maher called up for the Netherlands squad to face England in this month's friendly.
Maher has made a big impact in the Eredivisie this season, producing a number of eye-catching performances to attract interest from across Europe.
The 18-year-old is also eligible to play for Morocco and must decide in the future where his allegiance lies, but could feature for Holland in the Wembley friendly game on February 29th.
AZ boss Verbeek was surprised at how quickly the youngster earned his first international call-up but has no doubt the midfielder can do well.
"It's very fast, but it is nice for the boy," Verbeek told
NUSport.
"At the beginning of the season a few people pointed out that he is a great player. He got called up once for the juniors and now he's in the frame for the senior Oranje.
"I know the level but I know he can easily adapt."
