Ajax sneaked into the Champions League play-offs on away goals after a 3-3 draw with PAOK Saloniki in Greece. With the tie level at 1-1 from the first leg Vieirinha gave PAOK the advantage with the opener after 16 minutes. Ajax took control of the tie with three goals in seven minutes at the start of the second half from captain Luis Suarez (48), Siem de Jong (50) and Rasmus Lindgren (55). However, Dimitris Salpingidis pulled one back almost immediately and Vladimir Ivic drew the scores level in stoppage time, but Ajax held on to go through. Fenerbahce crashed out of the Champions League after going down 3-2 on aggregate to Young Boys of Berne following a shock 1-0 defeat in Istanbul. Henri Bienvenu scored the crucial winning goal five minutes before the break to give the Swiss side a famous win. Zenit St Petersburg edged out Unirea Urziceni 1-0 on aggregate after Danny's first half goal earned the Russians a 1-0 win in their second leg clash. Rosenborg breezed past AIK Stockholm 4-0 on aggregate after a 3-0 home success in the second leg. Rade Prica broke the deadlock on 55 minutes and further goals from Vadim Demidov (64) and Mikael Lustig (76) booked the Norwegian side's spot in Friday's play-offs draw. Basel eased into the play-offs with a 5-1 aggregate win over Debrecen after a 3-1 win in Switzerland. The home side raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals Cagdas Atan (26), Scott Chipperfield (59) and Xherdan Shaqiri (64) rendering Adamo Coulibaly 74th minute strike a mere consolation for the visitors. Serbian champions Partizan Belgrade eased past HJK Helsinki 2-1 to go through 5-1 on aggregate to book their place in Friday's draw thanks to two goals from Cleo with Mohamed Kamara finding the net for HJK Helsinki. Sparta Prague earned a 1-0 win in Lech Poznan to progress 2-0 on aggregate with Jiri Kladrubsky scoring the winner from the penalty spot five minutes after the break. Slovakian champions MSK Zilina secured the spot in the next round with a 3-1 victory over Litex Lovech to progress 4-2 on aggregate. Sandrinho gave Lovech the lead with the opener on 50 minutes, but Zilina roared back with goals from Emil Rilke, Tomas Oravec and Momodou Ceesay after Ivelin Popov was sent off for the visitors. Dynamo Kiev proved too strong for Gent running out 6-1 winners on aggregate after a 3-1 second leg success in Belgium. Goals from Denys Garmash (32), Artem Milevskiy (55), and Oleh Gusev were enough to give Kiev the win with Elimane Coulibaly netting the hosts. FC Copenhagen got the better of BATE 3-2 on aggregate after a five-goal thriller in Denmark. Cesar Santin got FC Copenhagen off to a flying start with the opener after just two minutes and William Kvist added a second on 27 minutes. BATE drew level before the break with two quick-fire goals from Artyom Kontsevoi (40) and Pavel Nekhaychik (44), but Dame N'Doye netted the winner for the home side just before the hour mark. Red Bull Salzburg swept Omonia Nicosia aside 4-1 to go through 5-2 on aggregate. Dusan Svento set Red Bull on their way with the opener on 21 minutes before Franz Schiemer helped himself to two goals in three minutes (37 & 40). Joaquin Boghossian made it 4-0 58 minutes before Hernan Rengifo netted a last-minute consolation for the visitors. FC Sheriff overcame Dinamo Zagreb 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Croatia. Vladimir Volkov fired FC Sheriff in front after 16 minutes, but Sammir sent the game inton extra-time with a 55th minute leveller. Neither side could find a winner in extra-time meaning a dreaded penalty shoot-out and it was FC Sheriff who held their nerve to go through 6-5.
