Ajax on top as PSV miss out

Ajax moved top of the Eredivisie thanks to a 2-1 win over rivals Feyenoord in Rotterdam. Martin Jol's side took the lead at De Kuip just before the break through Siem De Jong. Summer signing Mounir El Hamdaoui then doubled their advantage just before the hour mark. Andre Bahia set up a frantic finish as he pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining, but Ajax held on to go top and maintain their unbeaten start to the new season. PSV Eindhoven could have gone top rather than Ajax, but they were held to a goalless draw at Roda JC. In-demand striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel inspired Utrecht to a 3-2 home win over VVV Venlo. VVV took the lead on 16 minutes through Ruud Boymans, but Van Wolfswinkel levelled midway through the first half. Boymans then restored VVV's lead on 72 minutes, only for Van Wolfswinkel to level again just moments later. Then with just five minutes left Nana Asare grabbed the winner for Utrecht. Champions FC Twente remain unbeaten, but they drew their third match of the campaign as they were held to a goalless draw at Heracles. AZ Alkmaar grabbed their first win of the season as Jonathas' effort just before the break gave them a 1-0 win at NEC Nijmegen.
