Godenzonen coach planning swoop for Twente midfielder

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has revealed the Eredivisie champions are chasing the signature of FC Twente ace Theo Janssen. The 29-year-old midfielder has played a key role for Twente this season in a campaign which saw them narrowly miss out on the league title to Ajax last weekend. He is under contract in Enschede until 2014 but reportedly has a €3million (£2.6m) release clause in his deal which the Godenzonen could trigger. Ajax intend to strengthen their resources ahead of next season and De Boer feels Netherlands international Janssen, who joined Twente in the summer of 2008, would be an ideal addition to his midfield. "We're definitely interested in signing Theo Janssen from Twente," De Boer told De Telegraaf. "Additionally, we're in talks with three more players."

De Boer has already brought young attacker Thulani Serero across from Ajax Cape Town, while AZ striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and RKC winger Derk Boerrigter are also on his radar. "Derk Boerrigter and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson are very good options," added De Boer. "We've already communicated to the clubs that we want to have those players. "The European football stars themselves are enthusiastic and the deals must now be negotiated with the clubs."
