Amsterdam Appeals Court rules appointment must be overturned

Johan Cruyff has won his legal fight against the appointment of Louis van Gaal as Ajax CEO after a Dutch appeals court ruled that it must be overturned. This is the latest twist in a turbulent few months for the Amsterdam club with boardroom battles and the team failing to perform on the pitch and languishing in sixth place in the Eredivisie. Cruyff, who is a member of the Ajax board, was unhappy at the decision to hire the former Netherlands coach taken by fellow board members at a meeting he was absent from. The board insisted they did not need Cruyff's approval to make the appointment which led to the public legal dispute. The Amsterdam Appeal Court said in a written decision on Tuesday that other board members had "deliberately put Cruyff offside" by appointing Van Gaal in November without adequately consulting Cruyff.
