Dutch club dismiss coach amid reports of McClaren return

FC Twente have parted ways with coach Co Adriaanse to fuel reports that Steve McClaren will make a return to the Eredivisie club. Sky Sports reported earlier on Tuesday that former England boss McClaren is set for a second stint at Twente after winning the title with the club in 2010. The Enschede side have now confirmed that Adriaanse has been dismissed, clearing the way for a potential McClaren return. The 64-year-old Adriaanse, who took charge of the club last summer, leaves with FC Twente in third spot in the standings but having lost their last three matches of 2011 in the Europa League, Eredivisie and KNVB Beker Cup. A statement on the club's official website read: "Co Adriaanse, the coach of FC Twente, is leaving the Enschede club. FC Twente have terminated his contract with immediate effect. "Chairman Joop Munsterman will explain the departure later today." Assistants Alfred Schreuder, Boudewijn Pahlplatz and Youri Mulder will provisionally take charge of training, the club announced.
