Feyenoord keen to keep Kuyt

Feyenoord have opened talks with Dirk Kuyt over a new deal at De Kuip.

Feyenoord have opened talks with Dirk Kuyt over a new deal at De Kuip.

Kuyt is contracted with Feyenoord until 2009, but the Dutch side are looking to tie him down to an even longer deal.

The Dutch international has been strongly linked with a move away from Feyenoord, with a number of top clubs chasing his signature.

Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Real Madrid are all thought to be keeping tabs on the 25-year-old following his goalscoring exploits for club and country.

Feyenoord director Chris Woerts insists the club will do everything they can to keep Kuyt.

"From our side, we want to do everything to make Dirk in his career definitively the face of Feyenoord," Woerts told AD Sportwereld.

"If that would be successful, you create as a club a certain stability in your squad.

"We are happy to hear that Dirk is prepared to think about that."

Kuyt is refusing to rush into making a decision on his future and will take his time over contract negotiations.

"If you decide to continue with each other, then it has to be a considered decision, I think", said Kuyt.

"But then things can change day by day in the football business. In each case, I find it important to fool nobody."
