Champions
Twente were unable to take advantage of leaders PSV's surprise loss to ADO Den Haag on Saturday after a 1-1 draw away to
Utrecht.
Leon de Kogel provided Utrecht with a 37th minute lead, but Nacer Chadli's goal five minutes into the second half earned Twente a draw which takes them level on points with PSV.
Fourth-placed
Groningen saw Tim Matavz score a hat-trick in a 7-1 home mauling of
Willem II in a game which saw three players sent off.
Andreas Granqvist and Fredrik Stenman scored in the space of a minute to put Groningen in command before Matavz netted a minute before half-time.
Willem II appeared to have been handed a route back into the game on 51 minutes when Andreas Lasnik scored from the penalty spot after Granqvist had been sent off.
However, just three minutes later, the visitors were down to 10 men and a further goal behind after Matavz converted a penalty following Arjan Swinkels' red card.
Gerrit Pressel was then dismissed on 67 minutes for a second bookable offence for Willem II before Matavz completed his hat-trick four minutes later.
Thomas Enevoldsen weighed in with a goal two minutes after that and the rout was wrapped up by Dusan Tadic seven minutes from time.
Feyenoord continue to languish at the wrong end of the table after letting the lead slip to draw 1-1 at
Vitesse.
Luc Castaignos put Feyenoord ahead on 56 minutes, but Vitesse snatched a point six minutes later through Ismail Assaiti's penalty.
Heracles hung on with 10 men in the closing stages to record an important 1-0 home triumph over
Roda JC Kerkrade.
Willie Overtoom scored the only goal of the contest seven minutes after half-time before Heracles had Tim Breukers sent off for two yellow cards on 65 minutes.
