Dutch club keep on caretaker pair
NAC Breda have revealed caretaker managerial duo John Karelse and Gert Aandewiel will finish the season as coaches.
Former boss Robert Maaskant surprised the Eredivisie club last month when he departed for Polish giants Wisla Krakow.
Maaskant's assistants Karelse, a former Newcastle goalkeeper, and Aandewiel took the reins while the club hunted for a new coach.
NAC attempted to appoint Dutchman Erwin Koeman after he was sacked as Hungary national team coach, but the 49-year-old said he would prefer a job abroad.
RKC Waalwijk boss Ruud Brood was also in the frame for the vacant post, but NAC failed to reach an agreement with their former player.
Technical director Jeffrey van As has since confirmed Karelse and Aandewiel will continue sharing the role for the remainder of the season.
Value
"In the beginning we wanted to work the same way as we did the last years, with one coach and three assistants," Van As told Dutch press agency
ANP.
"But if you get too good and graduate coaches you only want to appoint someone who can add value to the staff.
"We chose this duo as they have already worked intensively for a long period, are complementary and it wouldn't be logical to appoint one above the other."
