Leiwakabessy set for new NEC deal
Jeffrey Leiwakabessy has agreed a new deal with NEC Nijmegen.
The 22-year-old's present contract is due to expire in the summer but the club, keen to head off the prospect of him moving on in the summer, have offered an extension.
Leiwakabessy, currently with the team at their training camp in Turkey, has hinted he will be ready to sign his new deal when he returns to Holland.
If he does eventually ink his new contract, Leiwakabessy will be tied to NEC until the summer of 2006.
NEC are looking to clarify the futures of a number of players, with Mike Zonneveld mulling over the deal he has been handed. NAC Breda are reportedly ready to step in if he fails to pen the extension.
Patrick Ax, Dejan Govedarica, Pascal Heije, Dennis de Nooijer and Rene van Rijswijk all have expiring deals and it is not yet known if they will stay at the club.
Zico Tumba seems certain to leave NEC in the summer after revealing he will hang up his boots and return to France.
