PSV slip up; Heerenveen let two-goal lead slip
PSV were denied late on by Groningen while FC Twente and Ajax played out an entertaining draw.
Fred Rutten's
PSV, bidding for their 22nd Dutch top-tier title, missed out on the chance to take advantage of Ajax's draw with FC Twente by being held to a 1-1 draw at home to
Groningen.
Ola Toivonen kept up his impressive start to the campaign with the opener on 62 minutes, but the hosts were pegged back by a Gonzalo Garcia strike two minutes from time.
In the day's evening kick-off, last season's runners-up
Ajax twice came from behind to deny home side
Twente at the Arke Stadion.
First, Theo Janssen's opener was cancelled out by Mounir El Hamdaoui before Janssen's second of the evening was undone by Eyong Enoh.
The result means Ajax stay on top but they miss the opportunity to go four points clear after only matching PSV's earlier result.
Meanwhile,
AZ got their third win of the season as they sealed a 1-0 win over stuttering
FC Utrecht, with Rasmus Elm netting the only goal of the game a minute before the interval.
Elsewhere,
ADO Den Haag and
Heracles Almelo played out the game of the day at Het Zuiderpark in a 3-2 win for the home side.
Heracles took the lead on 17 minutes through Glynor Plet but goals from Lex Immers and the first of two from Dmitri Boulykin put Den Haag ahead before the break.
After the break, Everton Ramos da Silva drew the visitors level once more but Boulykin completed his brace 20 minutes from time to re-establish Den Haag's lead and the hosts held out for the win.
And it was goals galore at Abe Lenstra Stadion too, where
Heerenveen let a two-goal lead slip as
Roda JC Kerkrade fought back for a 2-2 draw.
A first-half brace from Bas Dost put the home side in control and seemingly cruising towards three points, but it all went pear-shaped in seven second-half minutes.
Substitute Arnaud Sutchuin Djoum got Roda back in it on 69 minutes and the comeback was complete soon after when Mads Junker levelled up the tie.
The visitors had to see out the final moments a man short, as midfielder Laurent Delorge saw red for his second bookable offence, but they duly hung on for a creditable point.
