Capital One Cup preview: QPR, Hull, Burnley among first-round entrants
Tuesday 11 August 2015 19:53, UK
Every club from the Football League will be in action this week as the Capital One Cup gets underway.
In recent years, two of the relegated teams from the Premier League have received a bye through the first round, but this season all 72 clubs will be involved.
The 24 teams from the Championship will all be aiming to avoid an upset, although at least six sides from the second tier have been knocked out at the first-round stage every year in the last decade, apart from 2009.
The action gets underway on Tuesday evening, with the three sides relegated from the Premier League last season all on the road as Queens Park Rangers, Burnley and Hull go to Yeovil, Port Vale and Accrington Stanley respectively.
Brentford, who made it through on penalties last season following a 6-6 draw with Dagenham, host Oxford United this time around while Fulham go to League Two Wycombe.
Among the other first-round ties - which have to be decided on the night - Ipswich entertain Stevenage, Cardiff host Wimbledon and Wolves are at home to Newport.
Last year’s beaten semi-finalists Sheffield United head to Morecambe while MK Dons, who stunned Manchester United in the competition last season, host Leyton Orient.
Portsmouth and Derby meet live on Sky Sports 1 on Wednesday evening, with Middlesbrough also in action at Oldham and Crewe hosting Preston.
The final match of the week sees Leeds make the short trip to Doncaster, also live on Sky Sports.
