Sky's Paul Gilmour reports on the Wembley pitch before Tottenham's Champions League match against PSV

Tottenham's Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven will go ahead at Wembley on Tuesday after passing a pitch inspection, UEFA has confirmed.

PSV had been uncertain whether they would be able to train on the Wembley pitch on Monday ahead of Tuesday's match, but the assessments - carried out by ground staff - confirmed they would be allowed.

A UEFA statement read: "The pitch assessment conducted today was not a UEFA one, but a standard type of visit and quality measurement that the Wembley stadium management does before every match.

"We can confirm that the media activities planned for today, as well as the game itself, will take place as scheduled".

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino claimed the pitch was partly to blame for their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City last Monday - citing the surface as the reason Erik Lamela missed a glaring opportunity.

Sky Sports News reported last week that Wembley groundstaff did not consider the seven-day period between matches to be enough time for the surface to return to its peak.

Spurs' 1-0 defeat last Monday night came just 24 hours after the final NFL game at the stadium, and the pitch was still emblazoned with NFL branding due to the potential for too much paint-washing to damage it even further.
