Midfielder Keisuke Honda has set his sights on UEFA Champions League success with CSKA Moscow and insists he is unconcerned with personal glory.
Honda scored the winning goal in CSKA's 2-1 victory against Sevilla on Tuesday night, earning the Russian side a 3-2 aggregate win to put them through to the quarter-final stage.
In doing so, the former VVV Venlo midfielder became the first Japanese player to reach the last eight of Europe's Premier club competition, but the 23-year-old is more concerned with his team's progress.
"I'm not interested in being Japan's first anything or whatever," Honda told
Nikkan Sport.
"I've set my goals much higher than that."
Honda's long-range free-kick deceived Sevilla goalkeeper Andres Palop to earn CSKA a deserved victory at the Sanchez Pizjuan and put the Muscovites into their first Champions League quarter-final in 17 years.
"I put it right in the corner where I was aiming," Honda added.
"The fact the goalkeeper got a hand on it made it sweeter. It's not over because we beat Sevilla. We can still go further."
