Whittaker - Gers on course

Steven Whittaker believes Rangers have taken a massive step forward after defeating Bursaspor.

Defender now relishing the visit of Valencia

Steven Whittaker believes Rangers have taken a massive step forward following their UEFA Champions League victory over Bursaspor at Ibrox. The Gers defender believed Walter Smith's men exorcised their demons with the win against the Turkish champions on Wednesday night. Rangers have already earned plaudits for earning a creditable draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in their Group C opener. And Whittaker is now relishing the visit of Valencia in a few weeks time after their first European victory at home in seven attempts. "The home form is obviously something we wanted to improve on from last year," he said. "We have managed to do that in our first home game. We've got another home game against Valencia next and we are looking forward to that one as well."

Tough

The Scottish champions currently sit joint top of the group with United but Whittaker says they must not start playing gung-ho football when the Primera League leaders come to town. "We can't get too carried away," Whittaker added. "We are two games in and we have had two good results. We'll enjoy that but there is still a lot of football to be played. "We have four points from six and that's a good start but we have two tough ties against Valencia next."
