Zurich hold Lazio, Sporting comfortably beat Vaslui

Serie A outfit Lazio were held to a draw away at FC Zurich while Sporting maintained their 100% record against Vaslui in Europa League Group D. Lazio remain winless in this year's competition after they could only draw 1-1 away at Swiss side FC Zurich. Edoardo Reja's men went into the encounter in Switzerland inspired by Sunday's 2-1 triumph over Roma in the city derby and went ahead in what was their first chance of the game. Andre Dias headed Hernanes' corner towards the area and Giuseppe Sculli struck the ball from 12 yards past Zurich goalkeeper Andrea Guatelli. Lazio's joy was shortlived as the home side pulled level 20 seconds later. Alexandre Alphonse fed Nikci Adrian inside the area and his right-footed strike towards the upper left corner beat Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti. Both teams spurned chances to take all three points and the result will be of little comfort for either side, who are winless after three games. Meanwhile, a goal in each half from Evaldo and Matias Fernandez sealed a comfortable victory for Sporting, inflicting a first defeat on Vaslui to move seven points clear and within touching distance of the knockout stage. Lopes Wesley was dismissed for the visitors in the 38th minute and Evaldo eased any pressure around the Estadio Jose Alvalade when he opened the scoring two minutes before the break. That goal put Sporting in total control and Schaars brought a save out of goalkeeper Vytautas Cerniauskas in the 55th minute, before Bruno Pereirinha cleared the bar with a 20-yard effort two minutes later. Andre Carrillo shot wide in the 67th minute but three minutes later he turned provider for the second goal, Fernandez rounding off the move with a powerful close-range finish. Schaars hit the post in the 83rd minute and substitute Valeri Bojinov shot wide in injury-time as the Portuguese side maintained their dominance in the closing stages, without adding to their tally.
