Romania striker rushed to hospital after training-ground collision

Romania striker Ciprian Marica has been rushed to hospital with a head injury. The 22-year-old Stuttgart player suffered the injury in a collision with team-mate Marius Niculae during training on Tuesday. "He has gone to the hospital and we will have to wait and see," confirmed a team spokesman. Marica was an unused substitute as Romania held France to a 0-0 draw in their opening Group C clash on Monday.

Cutting edge

Adrian Mutu partnered Daniel Niculae in attack and although he was pleased Romania managed to keep the French at bay, he accepts they must be more clinical if they are going to upset World Cup holders Italy in Zurich on Friday. "We achieved what we set out to do," said Mutu. "Our aim is not to be beaten." "To be at the top in Europe you have to beat these teams," he added. "We didn't have many clear chances but we had some and we should have scored. It is very difficult but we must take our chances."
