Former captain becomes Super Eagles boss
Nigeria have appointed Stephen Keshi as their national team coach just five days after sacking Samson Siasia following the country's failure to qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
Keshi, former captain of the Super Eagles who won the 1994 African Cup of Nations, has been given a contract that runs until 2014.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made the announcement on Wednesday, with deputy president Mike Umeh revealing that everyone at the organisation was behind the selection of the 49-year-old as the new boss.
"It was a unanimous decision taken by the NFF for the appointment of Stephen Keshi as the new head coach of the national team," he said.
Keshi coached the Mali national team this year but failed to steer them to the finals to be held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
He was the Nigeria captain at the 1994 World Cup finals and is said to be a popular choice among his countrymen.
