Toshack ready to call upon experienced pair ahead of qualifier

Wales manager John Toshack is ready to call up defensive duo Danny Gabbidon and James Collins ahead of next Friday's opening Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro. Neither player has featured much for the national side over the past year, largely due to injuries, and Toshack is keen for them to be involved. Gabbidon played just three times since the start of last season due to a succession of groin problems while Aston Villa's Collins is now back in action following a calf injury. "James and Danny are proven Premier League players and clearly the squad is a lot stronger if they are with us and are 100 per cent fit," said Toshack. "They've had a lot of problems but they are two very talented players and we hope they will both come through this weekend."

Praise

The Wales manager has praised the recent performances of Craig Morgan and Ashley Williams for the Dragons in the absence of the experienced pair. "As we have not had either on a regular basis, we have had to live without them and Ashley Williams and Craig Morgan have both really shone over the last 12-18 months," he added. "I would have no qualms about continuing with Craig and Ashley if need be." Wales also face England, Switzerland and Bulgaria in their European qualifying campaign.
