Ashley Cole explains why he thinks Arsene Wenger would be right for England

Former Arsenal defender Ashley Cole believes Arsene Wenger should be the next manager of England.

Cole, who played under Wenger for seven years before his controversial switch across London to Chelsea in 2006, won 107 caps for England.

The 35-year-old, who now plays in the United States with LA Galaxy, reckons England have a good crop of emerging players who will be better prepared for the challenges ahead after their Euro 2016 disappointment.

And in an exclusive interview with SoccerAM's Tubes, Cole insisted there was no better candidate than Wenger.

"I think now they'll push on now and get their heads up now that they've added a tournament to their CV," Cole said.

"But going forward I don't know. Do you go for a foreign manager, do you stick with an English manager?

"Again it's debatable but for me I'd like to see someone like Wenger there. He's good with the youngsters, knows how to win and knows his football.

"So if you asked me to choose a manager it would be Arsene Wenger. I think he could develop it on to the next level.

"Like I said, the players they have there is great talent. They just need the experience and just need someone like Wenger that can nurture the young ones, he's done it at Arsenal for years now so I'd like to see Arsene Wenger."
