USA forward Carli Lloyd has tipped England to win the Women's European Championship

World Cup winner Carli Lloyd was impressed by England’s 6-0 thrashing of Scotland in their Women’s Euro 2017 opener.

Jodie Taylor's hat-trick and goals from Ellen White, Jordan Nobbs and Lloyd's former Manchester City Women's team-mate Toni Duggan sealed an emphatic win for Mark Sampson's Lionesses in Utrecht.

Lloyd, who spent four months on loan at City from US side Houston Dash last season, believes Sampson's side can go all the way and win the Women's Euros for the first time in their history.

"It was a great opening result for them," Lloyd, who is Manchester City's US tour ambassador, told Sky Sports News in Houston.

"They came out strong, they scored some great goals and Jodie Taylor hit a hat-trick which was great to see.

"I really think they have got a good shot of winning this tournament - I maybe would only say that because the US is not in this tournament - but I hope they do well."

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Lloyd added: "I think it's great for women's football in general for this to be going on.

"The Euros has been gaining popularity all across the world so hopefully it all goes well and we just see a rise in women's football."
