World Cup winner Gordon Banks is concerned by England's selection problems ahead of this summer.
Three Lions legend expects Green to start in goal
World Cup winner Gordon Banks has admitted his concerns about England's selection problems ahead of this summer's tournament.
The former Three Lions goalkeeper, who famously sampled global glory in 1966, is worried that his country do not have a settled line-up ahead of the finals in South Africa.
Banks is worried about who England boss Fabio Capello will select to play in attack with Wayne Rooney, as Emile Heskey, Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe battle for a place.
The legendary shot-stopper is also unsure who will earn the No.1 shirt, with on-loan Birmingham goalkeeper Joe Hart's lack of experience viewed as a negative factor.
Consistent
"I don't think it's what I would want if I was the manager," Banks said in the
Daily Mail.
"I'd want us playing more as a team that have been together for a while. But Mr Capello isn't absolutely sure.
"What centre-forward is he going to play with Rooney? I don't think he knows. We've had Heskey, Crouch, Defoe. At this stage it's getting a bit too close.
"What goalkeeper is he going to play? I've seen them all and there's no-one that stands out but I think he's going to start with (Rob) Green.
"Hart is probably the most consistent but would Mr Capello take a chance of putting him in when he has very little senior international experience?"
