FA expect Italian coach to see out his contract
Club England managing director Adrian Bevington is adamant Fabio Capello remains full committed to the national cause.
A leading figure at the Football Association, Bevington is part of the England party currently in South Africa for the World Cup finals.
It is fair to say that the Three Lions have underperformed in the tournament so far, with just two points taken from fixtures against the United States and Algeria.
They are now in serious danger of missing out on a place in the knockout stages, with Capello's tactics and team selections coming in for widespread criticism.
It has been suggested that the Italian will walk away from his post should England crash out at the group stage, prepared to fall on his sword after failing to deliver.
Bevington, though, is confident that no such decision will be taken and fully expects Capello to lead England into the last 16 and see out his contract with the FA, which is set to run until 2012.
Status
"We are in our position where it is in our own hands," he told
Sky Sports News ahead of a crucial meeting with Slovenia on Wednesday which England have to win to go through.
"We have drawn two games that, while far from perfect, puts us in a position where if we win on Wednesday against Slovenia we go through to the next round. In reality, that's all we should be thinking about at this time.
"We made our position very clear with Fabio and his status before the World Cup specifically so we didn't have to get involved in discussing contracts and so forth during the World Cup, out of respect to Fabio, the players and all of his coaching staff, it's not what the FA should be doing.
"Fabio is our manager, he has a contract with us and nothing has changed since before the World Cup. All we are thinking about at this moment in time is playing Slovenia on Wednesday."
Bevington added: "I think it's disappointing that you have to deal with issues like this.
"We understand that we are in the glare of the media spotlight and people are interested in everything that is going on with the England team at the moment, but I can speak on behalf of every senior person at the Football Association so far as we are fully committed to Fabio Capello and he is fully committed to the job. Nothing has changed since where we were a few weeks ago."
